What are the Pass rules in Indian railways?

Passes are issued for free-of-cost travel benefits for Indian railways employees. It is available only to Railway Employers. Railway Employee Pass Rules were issued in 1986. Later it was changed to 1993. This rule applies to all railway employees except railway trainees, daily labourers and specially excluded person.

Type of Pass in Indian Railways

There are many types of Indian railway Pass.

Duty Pass in Railway

When Railway employees live on duty then provide a duty pass facility. It’s called a duty pass

Type of Duty Pass

  • Golden Pass
  • Silver Pass
  • Bronze Pass

Golden Pass:- Railway CRB or CEO, Member of Railway Board, Finance of Commissioner, CROS and GM are given Golden Pass Token. A Golden Pass holder, his wife with under 18 children can travel. Golden Pass AC First Class (1A) 2 Berth, AC Second Class (2A) 4 Berth & Ac Code (First Class Ac) Maximum 2 Berths Offered Free of Cost

Silver Pass:- Railway AGM, DGM, PHOD and DRM or CEO are given Silver Pass Token. Silver Pass AC First Class (1A) and AC Second Class (2A) maximum 4 Berths Offered Free of Cost

Bronze Pass:- Those holders who are not given Golden and Silver Pass, them given Bronze Pass token. A Bronze Pass holder and his wife and under 18 children can travel Free of Cost

Suvidha Pass

Railway employees for Personal travel issued Suvidha Pass. Railway employees for personal travel issued Suvidha Pass Token. Suvidha Pass Railway employees can travel with their spouses, children and family members. Suvidha Pass travel has no limits on family members but dependent persons limit maximum of 5

Type of Suvidha Pass

  • First Class A Pass ( White Colours)
  • First Class Pass ( Green Colours)
  • 2nd Class A Pass ( Blue Colours)
  • 2nd Class Pass ( Pink Colours)

First Class A Pass:- Gazetted Officer Group A and B First Class A Pass is given. Ac 2tier or below berths are given.

First Class Pass:- Non-Gazetted Officer Group All employees GP 4200 and above are given the First Class Pass facility. Ac 2tier or below berths are given.

2nd Class A Pass:- All those employees GP 2800 are given 2nd Class A Pass facility. Ac 3tier Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Durant express or below berths are offered.

2nd Class Pass:- All those employees GP of more than 1900 and less than 2800 are given a 2nd Class Pass facility. Ac 3tier Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Durant express or below berths are offered.

Check Pass or Card Pass

Group C and Group D employees are given check passes or card passes. Check passes are given for occasional journeys and card passes are given for normal journeys or daily journeys

School Pass

School Pass is given to railway employees boys and girls. A school Pass is issued to travel from the place of study to the place of parents’ residence during holidays or during special hours. A minimum of 3 School Passes are given in a year. According to the post of the employee, the class pass is given to the son or daughter of the class pass obtained. To get School Pass must be given a study centre document.

Retirement pass

A retired railway officer will get a Retirement pass token. If the Retirement Officer has served for 20 years then he will get a Retirement Pass after Retirement. After retirement every year Gazetted officers will get 3 retirement passes. Non-Gazetted officers or Group C employees will get 2 Retirement passes per year. This benefit is given for the whole life

Resident card pass

When a railway employee stays in any other place from duty. than resident card pass token is issued for travelling. The resident card provides for going to duty from the residence place. Railway employees get the same class ticket for the Resident card pass as they get the Suvidha pass. The resident card pass is valid for more than one year.

Widow pass

When a railway employee dies his wife is given Widow’s pass
